With a medium iron, there is not as much body turn as with a longer club. At the top of the swing the hands are high, but the club does not reach the horizontal position as with a wood, and the swing is more upright.
Archive for November, 2006The wedge is an important club and mastering it will immediately help you lower your gold scores. The swing . . . at the top of the swing with a wedge, the left arm is almost straight. The backswing is shorter than it is with other irons, due to the shorter length of the club and the open stance. There is less pivot and shifting of the weight. The left heel is still on the ground. Breaking the wrists too quickly at the start of the backswing can cause you to lose control of the golfclub. It can also result in you taking the club back outside of the proper arc. Keep the hands, arms and club together and break the wrists gradually. |
