Here are some tips that will help you improve your putting. Good play on the greens will help you greatly improve your golf scores.

- Always visualize the path your ball will travel so that it will go
in the hole.

- Take a good look at the green and take into account any dips
that may cause your ball to change its direction, then compensate
your aim.

- Your putting swing should be a smooth, pendulum-like action
with no wrist break. Swing with your shoulders and you should
always keep your head down.

- Don’t be afraid to put enough speed on the ball so that it will
actually make it to the hole. There’s nothing worse than coming
up short on a putt.

On a final note make sure that you always keep your eye on the
ball and that any stance you take will allow you to see the ball
from every point of the stroke. Take your time and develop your
own methods that work best for you.

Remember to take any tips on your golf game that you can find
and try them out to see if they work. If they make your game better
work on improving them and if they don’t forget them.
After all, golfers can never have too many tips!

Here’s a simple technique to improve your putting but, most likely, you are going to need a practice putting area at home so it may not be for everyone. However, chalk does not stay and will wash away so you may be able to try this at a local area.

Before you can expect to putt well on greens with a slope, you need to learn to putt well on the flat. This will train you to swing your putter through a straight line and hit the ball squarely on the face of the putter.

Now you need to get a putter that has a line on it that you can see clearly, as this will be the line that you will follow through to the center of the ball.

On the practice green (preferably one that you have at home, as this technique might not be appreciated) you will mark straight lines with a builders chalk line in several directions from the center of the hole spanning out around the green.

How often have you been frustratingly close to sinking a putt only to come up short?

Or maybe you have only just missed the hole to see your ball go sailing past adding too much distance for the return putt.

A lot of games have been lost on the putting green and in most instances it has been due to the wrong distance, rather than the direction of the ball.

Most beginners quickly get a feel for the direction the ball will travel, even on sloping greens.
You’ve probably seen it yourself when a newcomer to the game places the ball within inches of the hole on a sloping green time and time again.

If you watch the pros putt, you will notice that they are perfectly still over the ball, and their heads do not move. A good drill to help you keep still is to lean your head against a wall while you take some putting strokes. You should be able to feel your forehead move against the wall if you are not perfectly still. This perpendicular alignment to the wall should also show you if you are taking the putter head on a straight line back and forth.

Although the best putting golf grip for you is one that feels good and helps control the club, there are essentials to every golf grip.

On important tip is to make sure both thumbs point down the putter shaft, with the back of the left hand facing the target. This will ensure that your hands work together and gives you the best chance at putting consistently.

Use the muscles in the lower back to allow the shoulders to be moved. That way the shoulders and arms can be completely relaxed. Do not use your arms to make the club move. Any time the arms make the arms move, you are asking for a poor shot.

The putting stroke, body position and ball position are all very personal.  Hold the putter any way you want.  No rules.  Stand any way you want.  No rules.  Put the ball any place in the stance.  No rules.  An observation: many of the very best putters have used an open stance.  They can see the hole better.  You must be relaxed, especially in the shoulders.  Grip the putter gently.

The stroke is made with the biggest muscles possible.   The putting stroke is the same basic motion as the driver swing.  While you don’t need the weight transfer from the right to the left for a putt on fast greens these days, you still should use the biggest muscles possible.  Use the muscles in the lower back to cause the shoulders to be moved. That way the shoulders and arms can be completely relaxed.  Do not use your arms to make the club move.  Any time the arms make the arms move, you are asking for a poor shot.
