When driving a golf ball, if the wind is behind you, tee the ball up higher. You want to get the ball into the air and let the wind carry it farther. You can add a few yards to your drive if you hit it right.
When driving the golf ball if the wind is coming at you, tee it lower. You want to hit more of a line drive. Keeping the ball lower in this situation will help negate the effects of the wind.
If the wind is blowing side to side, you want to drive the ball lower, as when the wind is coming at you, and you want to drive into the wind to allow for the carry of the ball by the wind direction.
